Rider: Miguel Morras | Category: Road 1 Track 1 | Discipline: Road Racing

Miguel Morras, started his humble beginning in competitive cycling at his home town in Pamplona, Spain at a very young age. Often as a child, you would find Miguel reading the results from the latest bike race while watching the Pro Tours on television on the weekend. By his early teens, he was an accomplished racer, winning local races, and was recognized for his talent. By the time he was in his late teens, he was offered a spot on the National Team. From this he received proper coaching that earned him a seat to race in the World Championships in Quito, Ecuador July 31st, 1994. His conditioning was at its prime and on that day in July he became the Junior World Champion.

His win opened doors to the world of Pro Bike Racing and was recruited to race with Pro Tour Teams like Banesto, supporting team leader Miguel Indurain, a 5 time Tour De France Winner, and ONCE, supporting team leader Alex Zulle. He was the poster child of Navarra and all of Spain. He was the youngest Spanish rider and all of Spain hoped to see him win the Tour De France one day.

However, his Pro dreams came to an end after he had a terrible accident that shattered his knee. After a number of operations his recovery was slow and painful. Miguel needed to regroup, and decided to go back to school. He applied all that he learned from racing and attended the London School of Economics. He then continued his studies at the Stern Business School in New York City earning an M.B.A. He then got a job with CitiGroup where he rediscovered his passion for bike racing.

Miguel in his lifetime has always been active, from running, learning Judo, swimming, to playing soccer. While at his seat in CitiGroup, he decided to take on the bike for recreation. One day, on his ride, he encountered a group of cyclist training. He was intrigued by their cohesive-ness and their competitive spirit and asked to join on. Today he is now a member of that team, Team Champion System Racing/Cycles Gladiator Wines produced by Kraft Genie Cycling Not For Profit.

Since joining the team, Miguel finds balance in his life, between work, training, and sleep. He has made an impact in the New York Bike Racing scene. Being part of a great company, like CitiGroup and riding with Champion System/Cycles Gladiator, Miguel has made a pact with Trading and Training. His incredible drive to succeed is evident in both his work and his racing, but his compassion to help others is just as important.

In the last year, Miguel has been an active participant in charity events, such as the MS 100, The New York City Century and The Five Borough Bike Tour. He influences those who work with him, and recruited co-workers like, Jose Yepez, Jorge Hayler, Bernardo Guzman, Simon Costley, and others to participate in these charity events.

Miguel is a great asset to Kraft Genie Cycling and Team Champion System/ Cycles Gladiator Wine. Look for him on the Trading Floor at CitiGroup at day, and on the Bike at night.
