"It was probably one of the hottest days, this year at Floyd," says Jared Bunde, "I am happy to win an event here considering the level of competition this series sees."
For those that know the Floyd Bennett Field race series it is more than just a training event where racers can maintain fitness on their off racing weeks. FBF, as the locals call it attracts some of cyclings biggest names from time to time, in addition to the local pros which for sure are not there for a picnic. "These guys come out to rip legs off," claims Tom Bencivengo of the Champion System Racing squad, and he is correct for saying so. Of the near 50 starters at this event, less than 30 finished the race.
The racing scene in New York is flourishing and with promoters like Charie Issendorf, Champion System, Kissena and the Century Road Club (CRCA), New York's local racing scene is now producing some of America's future talent. And Champion System Racing is taking advantage of doing just that.
As stated by Ray Alba, Champion System Racing, "It is critical that we develop a team, a team the rides together, that fosters the development of riders, and then you can see champions arise."
