The boys in orange do it again for Kraft Genie Cycling. Our star rider, Miguel Morras, from Spain and a former Pro from ONCE, won the first stage of the Branch Brook Racing Series and took second in the Spring Series Opener in NYC.
Saturday, March 3, 2007, Branch Brook
Our team road strong staying near the front controlling the field during the first of many races at Branch Brook. With two laps to go and the field settling in for the sprint, Miguel saw an opportunity and attacked the field. Blake, Ray, and Scott controlled the peleton, allowing a sufficient gap to form. On the last lap, the field was anxious and started to close in on our team leader. Our team started to set up for the sprint in case Miguel was caught. With the final meters in sight, Miguel kicked into over-gear and raced away with a solo victory. It was our fist win of the season, and it was glorious. However there was no time for celebrating, we still had another race the next morning.

Sunday, March 4, 2007, Spring Series Race #1, Central Park, NYC
It was a chilly morning and the sun was rising when the field rolled of the line to start the Spring Racing Series in Central Park. The pace started out fast with an average speed of 27 MPH. The distance of the race was 70 kilometers, and at the half way mark a break away occurred. Two of our mates responded to this break and immediately latched on. Blake and Miguel worked hard to keep the break from being caught by the chasing peleton of 80 racers. With one lap to go, it was a game of cat and mouse, with teams attacking the break away, and at the right time Miguel raced away with less than 10K with a rival rider. It was a sprint to the finish up Cat’s Paw Hill. Miguel and this rival team rider were neck and neck, however the rival rider had the better legs that day and we took second. It was a great finish for our team and now we are contenders in this series.
Congrats to all of our team members and our sponsors. We look forward to bringing you more results and stories in the future.
