P123 field had 15 laps today. It was a large field, probably 60 (or more?) We had Mig, Franklyn, Dr. Jay, Chef Scott, Spider Raj, BykeLane.
There were a couple of attempts to get away in the first half of the P123 race. They were tracked down by Snyder, Burgos, and Dr. Jay patrolling the front of the peleton. At 8 to go there was a break that got away that included some legitimate threats, including 2 Empire riders (Ken Harris working with Euri), a Toga rider (Luis Aquino), Pollo (5 time D.R National Champ & 2005 Spring Series overall winner), and some others. Big Mig was near enough to the front to see the threat developing and he joined the break of 7-8. This was the deciding move that contained the eventual winning break. Missing from the break were some of the other big threats from GS Mengoni and Think Racing. With Big Mig in the deciding move the rest of the CSGladiators jobs were dictated to chase down and neutralize any other attempts to bridge. As the points leader, Miguel did not have to do all the work in the break, but since he wanted it to stick he took his turns. The CSGladiator lieutenants patrolled and neutralized all attempts from the peleton. As the advantage of the break grew with each lap Miguel decided he wanted to test the will of the break. With 4 to go he took control of the lead group with only Euri (Empire) and Aquino (Toga!) willing or able to attempt to hold his wheel. The break of 7 became split with Mig away in the lead, Empire and Toga chasing 5-10 seconds back, Harris (Empire) off alone another 5 seconds, then 3 off behind Harris. The rest of the peloton remained at 1:30-1:45 behind. With each lap Miguel gained another 10 seconds on the chasers. He never looked back and came across the line with a 35 sec advantage over the 2-3 finishers and over 1:45 over the peleton. An incredible effort by Miguel at the front made possible by the efforts of Franklyn, Jay, Scott, & Raj neutralizing further threats.
In the 34 field, Tim O, Marc Adam, and John Miller got to test their legs in a large field (60+) that remained mostly together throughout the race. No splits remained away. The final came down to a large field sprint. On the bell lap Marc and Tim O made their moves to the front up the hill. They maintained good position throughout the lap with Marc best placed to contest the field sprint. Charging hard at the end, Marc just got pipped at the end but maintained a top 10 placing with 7th overall.
